File security

Files are stored everywhere - servers, workstations, backup tapes, USB drives, etc. No file is secure by default, and it usually sits
on a user’s workstation or USB drive, waiting to be used. What if that media was lost or stolen? The information on that media is then
compromised and can severely damage the company. With federal laws and regulations in place, it would be quite expensive too.
File encryption
File encryption of various degrees have been around for as long as computers have. Yet, the use of file encryption almost never goes beyond
the very large corporations that have many pending patents, a large database of customer & client information, etc. Regardless of the
size of your organization, your information is your most valuable asset. If you lose or compromise that information, it could damage your
company severely.
Network Shares
Is your organization built upon Network shares where different groups of people have different rights to different folders in the tree?
Great, but with the administrator account you still have access to everything, including the registry files of all your servers in the
organization.
New security holes are discovered in the world’s servers every day, allowing hackers to gain access to the administrator account,
and thereby compromising your information.
Portability

USB drives and laptops are great. They let us work with information while we are mobile and not in the office or at home listening to
our favorite music. However, they do pose a severe threat to companies' information integrity. A lost USB drive containing 100'000 customer
records is a severe breach of security, but it can be prevented if the information is encrypted. This number isn't taken out of thin air
either - it comes from an actual data breach report. Laptop security is rather easy to achieve. A solution to encrypt the entire hard
drive is easy to install, and does not need maintenance. If you lose the laptop, your information is completely locked away out of
harm’s way.

Content Filtering
With file encryption measures in place, you are off to a great start, but what if a user doesn’t use the encryption when
they need to, like on the financial statements? Then your solution has no effect and you are still exposed to threats of various
degrees.
With a Content Filtering solution you can force the user to encrypt information on the fly, making you less vulnerable to threats
caused by involuntary misuse by the user.
